Hello Honda-Tech members...

Over a year ago, I created some Greasemonkey scripts for VWVortex forums, as I grew tired of the lack of updates, new features and javascript errors over the years. Since HT and the 'tex share the same forum software, I've decided to port over a simplified version for HT. Since I'm not a regular of these forums, I will try my best to answer whatever questions you may have. Also feel free to post up whatever suggestions.

- Toolbar

- Kill-All-Stickies
-- Tired of seeing stickies? Get rid of them all but you can toggle the display on/off at anytime. Site wide, I'll work on making them forum specific.
- Ignore User
-- Either sync with your IM ban list or keep a separate list. Ignore User will *hide* any thread started on a forum page, and posts/replies on thread pages. Again, you can toggle on and off and those posts are highlighted red. Downside, I still have to address quoted posts. You can view the list of ignore users on the IM Ban page. IF Sync'd to IM Ban, takes up to an hour to cache data.

<FONT COLOR="grey">=====</FONT><FONT COLOR="midnightblue">FAQ</FONT><FONT COLOR="grey">=====</FONT>

Q. When I download the .xpi extension file, nothing happens
A.
Since FireVortexHT is not hosted on mozilla.org, FireFox will not auto-install the extension. FireVortexHT can be installed two ways: Download the .xpi to your desktop and drag-n-drop into the FireFox Browser OR click on the download link and "open with" FireFox. After which, you will see a prompt confirming the installation of the extension.

Q. How does Kill-A-Thread Work?
A.
- Kill-A-Thread allows you to hide unwanted topics from view. By clicking the red [+] link next to any given thread, that thread will disappear from view. Up to 90 at one time. To see what threads you have killed, at the top of a given forum, look for a link called "[+] Toggle Killed Threads" (this link only appears if a killed thread exists on the given page). Just click the [-] link next to a thread to "Unkill".

Q. My recent Watched Topics/IM History do not appear listed in the drop down box on the top header bar.
A.
- In order to play nice with the Honda-Tech servers, FireVortexHT will cache data. Currently, Watched Topics and IM History update on the hour.

Q. Can you remove Ads?
A.
- Currently no, FireVortexHT respects Honda-Tech business operations.

Q. How do I set a favorite forum?
A.
- There is a [+] link next to each forum breadcrumb, just click the link and refresh the page. Click [-] to remove.

Q. How can sync FireVortexHT settings across multiple computers?
A.
- The following FireFox extension works backing up the entire profile

Q. FireVortexHT is slow to initialize or takes awhile to load
A.
- FV runs on greasemonkey, which allows a webpage to be rewritten AFTER the page has completely loaded into the DOM (FireFox Browser). It has been noted that the ads servers like google ads can cause a slight delay before FV kicks in.
- FV caches data in order to place nice with Honda-Tech servers. Cache updates occur every hour behind the scenes, typically updates are fast but if the VMG servers are slow you will notice a delay before FV kicks in.
- FV may add up to 1-2 seconds of post-page-processing (depending on what options are enabled). Tested with YSlow!

Q. What Media/Videos Does FireVortexHT Embed?
A.[*].mp3[*].swf[*].mov[*].wmv[*].asx[*]Google Video[*]YouTube[*]College Humor[*]LiveLeak

I do not see a lot wrong with this. The main thing I see wrong is that it has an unlicensed instance of Honda-Tech, which is a use that should be approved ahead of time by the owners of the name.

There seems to be nothing malicious in it, at least nothing that I can find using the analysis at my disposal.

The features to kill quoted images and kill unwanted threads would be of much use to heavy users of HT, I think. :-)

Honda-Tech does not have all that many stickies, so I wonder about the usefulness of that feature. Users should understand that they would not be exempted from any rules, directives or announcements in the stickies just because they have elected to hide them. My advice would be to use that feature sparingly and with discretion.

Moderators, of course, should not be hiding threads or stickies.

Just let me know what the proper citation needs to be or whatever guidelines to follow. (I'll take it up on PM)

#1 concern as it can be easy to work around the zeroforum authentication token ring. No data logging, user habits, etc... happen. Only communication is a ping to my server once a day to check for a new version, which just verifies a version number.

Definitely, those more advance features I have disabled by default.

With a moderator version I have for vwvortex forums, majority of those features are removed as they need to see sigs, stickies, images, etc... Depending on where this goes and ease of use folks may find. I could port the moderator version over as well. (might be a month or so as I'm wrapping that one up)

Ok, one major bug discovered... I had the vwvortex override on the PM window. I quickly disabled those features for now until I can fix the issue.

Thanks! If you install and use, just post up any quirks you find. Seems HT has a better grasp on the templates than VWVortex does, so I may have missed a few things here and there.

*which seems I found another... on reply pages I need to apply the image max-width.

so far what has been reported to me

javascript error popups: (on marketplace)
location.search (which I'm unable to replicate but others can, seems to be related with the way you enter the marketplace)
uncaught exception (reported on FF1.5 but i'm unable to replicate)
thisThread.parentNode.... (resolved)

also I've noticed
watchlist dropdown on the top header does not parse out watched topics from the marketplace and if you are on the marketplace, it won't parse out watched topics which exist on honda-tech
